Plus, ASIO locks out devs more than WASAPI, as WASAPI allows multi-mode sound, and a lot of Windows control that ASIO doesn't (like basic volume attenuation via the keyboard, if not the full Windows Mixer). WASAPI IS ASIO, but with a Windows wrapped emulation of another device so that other audio devices work IMO with my 4 cards WASAPI is almost identical to ASIO4ALL latency and only just loses to my developer provided ASIO. I think you're mixing WASAPI WaveRT with Shared mode or MME/DX. Secondly, it doesn't lock out devs, since it simply bypasses WASAPI, without breaking anything along the way. Helps with audio latency, especially since the soundcard does a better job at audio mixing then Windows does. WASAPI was made specifically for this reason and kills off every reason to use ASIO except audio production. I most likely never will as it's exclusive and locks devs out of a lot of APIs that use Windows' mixer and summing. I've never seen a game that needs or uses ASIO. Is everyone here seriously talking about the need for ASIO on soundblaster cards? That's like talking about the need for a giant rear spoiler on a Ford Focus. I know this is a bit old of a Thread but i must add that Creative Z, Zx and ZxR now support ASIO from Creative them self with their new driver update, Look Below.Ĭreative Z - Once you load the Link Click ''show details''Ĭreative Zx - Once you load the Link Click ''show details''Ĭreative ZxR - Once you load the Link Click ''show details'' Removed features compared to other cards on the market, a horrid digital to analog converter, lack of ASIO support, no OpenAL H/W acceleration, and price. be quiet! The problem seems to be that the front panel mic doesn't show up in the microphone configuration, I can only choose between rear panel mic and rear line-in, the third bullet for front panel mic (which is described in the manual) is missing.įurther notice: My brother got the exact same problem with his Z, but he didn't notice until now because he never uses the front panel. While the audio output automatically switches to the front panel as intended, I wasn't able to get my headset's mic working.įirst I suspected a loose connection or a damaged front panel, but after re-plugging it to my onboard Realtek chip I can confirm the wiring and front panel are fine as it worked flawlessly.Īfter that I inspected the sound card, but all components look okay and in place, see attached photographs. Yesterday now was the first time I connected my headset to my case's front panel since I bought the Z, to communicate in Discord while playing Battlefield. I bought a used Sound Blaster Z and until now I was pretty pleased with it's performance in combination with my Edifier R1800BT speaker setup, also the included beam-forming mic (plugged in at the rear) works fine for Skype etc.
